According to the High Country Association of Realtors, regional sales numbers for homes are 8 percent higher than they were at this time last year, making the first 2 months of 2019 the busiest in a decade.
In the 4-county region; encompassing Alleghany, Ashe, Avery and Watauga; 287 homes were sold by Realtors in January and February. During the same months last year, 266 homes were sold. March started out with a residential homes inventory of around 1,370 for the four counties combined.
Mortgage rates have stayed slightly lower than last year’s at an average 30-year fixed rate mortgage of 4.41 percent, versus last year’s 4.46 percent, according to Freddie Mac.
